I got into birddogs to blend some of the things that I love which are my kids, the outdoors and birddogs. I got a German Shorthaired Pointer(More on Drake in the Versatile Gun Dog Program) a backpack for my kids and a 150 acre lease in Liberty Hill, Texas. I built a quail Johnny House and bought a book called The Best Way to Train Your Gun Dog, The Delmar Smith Method. With kids on my back I started training my dogs and fell in love with it more and more every day. I was fortunate to have my first 2 birddogs be as great as they were. They taught me way more than I taught them. I had 2 litters from those 2 shorthairs both by requests from my friends and their friends. I trained most of their dogs for them, not as a business but just for fun. The quail started drying up in the places where we hunted but I was addicted so I took up field trialing. I trained and handled a dog name Cour’s Doc Holliday from 7 weeks of age to the title of NBHA Derby Amateur National Runner Up Champion. Doc was an incredible dog with a lot of run and was bird crazy! About that time my boys became T-Ball age and I took a break from dogs to coach my boys which I loved doing as well. My kids are grown so I recently got a 2 english pointers and a field trial horse and started back up. I got them at 7 weeks of age and they are now just over a year old and so far they are doing well. The goal is for them to compete on the Shooting Dog and or the All-Age Circuit and so far we are on track. They are about to run in their first Derby Field trial. Look for results in an upcoming section on this website and or Facebook. I look forward to the opportunity to work with every dog in my program. I feel, I give him or her the best opportunity to be as great of a birddog or field trial dog as possible. One thing I love about my program is my dogs have a lot of fun doing what they are bred to do. I will not ever take that from them..
