My first 2 pointing dogs were a male and female German Shorthaired Pointers named Drake and Jewel. They were both incredible, but Drake was awesome. If you are an all around hunter and love to hunt quail, dove and ducks lets make you a “Drake” He would find every covey and every single on the ranch. We literally had to pull him off the areas because we could completely wipe out the covey and you don’t ever want to do that. He would sit with you all day long and retrieve every dove you shot and he would never let you lose one. Ducks? oh he loved breaking ice on the pond to retrieve ducks. He hunted so hard and so good my buddies would not let him sleep in the dog box in the truck he would be tucked in bed with someone to get a good night sleep for Sundays hunt.
What to expect from your dog when he is finished with this program
He will load up in his kennel on command
He will heel to your left side
Depending on the dog when he is taught to sit
He will woah to a stop and hold on command
Pointing Upland Gamebirds
He will hunt in a quartering pattern- distance to be determined by owner
He will hunt edges
He will point and hold to shot
He will back a pointing dog
He will retrieve to hand
Migratory Birds-Dove, Ducks, Geese
Heel to your left side to a sit or stand TBD
Hold to heel till released
Retrieve to hand by land and water
